Con poca frecuencia de olas se hicieron el final de la tercera y la cuarta ronda. Claramente se vieron fuera del campeonato competidores por no tener la suerte o elegir una buena ola en su manga, como Jordy Smith en la manga con su compatriota February.
En tercera ronda Toledo hizo una manga espectacular dejando fuera a Tikanui Smith.
También en tercera ronda se vio que Medina es un autentico depredador aunque al final de la manga Dantas se lo puso caro.
